My name is Joel Spital, I recently began fitness modeling because of a recommendation from a photographer who said, "I had the most symmetrical physique and piercing green eyes all wrapped up in a warm personality." The motto I live my life by is, "It's a lifestyle, not a life sentence!" Below are a few important events that helped shape who I am today.

When I was ten years old, I would go with my father to the gym. I would have to sneak in because the minimum age to be inside the gym was thirteen years old. Growing up my parents instilled in me the importance of eating a balanced diet, which included fruit, vegetables, fish, nuts and grains. My beliefs about living a healthy lifestyle through exercise and nutrition started at an early age. My parents taught me some important values that I still believe in today, to make good choices, be your own person and strive to be a better person. I was involved in all types of sports; my favorites were/are baseball, surfing, and track.

Due to my dedication and hard work I was awarded the "Mr. San Diego" two consecutive years 1992 and 1993. In addition, I had some photos published in "Muscle and Fitness" magazine in 1993 with the caption reading "most incredible physique for a teen-ager."

Currently my workout regime consist of a pre-workout; which includes meditation to focus on each individual muscle that will be trained, stretching to prevent injury, and a burst of caffeine to help push my body past the pain threshold. I do not believe in the use of steroids to promote muscle growth. My philosophy includes using your god-given genetics and the use of healthy, natural supplements.

Next, I head to the gym with a full gallon of water, a CD that I play ritualistically as I workout, and lastly I begin my two hour training session. Each session includes a two warm-up sets, a 1-hour weight training session with few rests, a 30-minute high intensity cardio workout, and a cool down.

I'm a firm believer that the body adapts to the pre-existing workout, so you must change your routine every four weeks to get maximum results. Some of my alternates include, giant sets, drop sets, super sets, and pyramid sets. Although sometimes I will go back to basics and do power lifting, this is the heaviest weight possible with the best form to create body mass. I train five days a week with two days of rest, so that my body can recuperate.

Currently I'm a personal trainer and a nutritionist but I have future aspirations to get my license in orthopedic medicine and to work with injured children. To achieve this goal I am taking college courses and volunteer at the local hospital.

Some of my interest outside of bodybuilding and fitness modeling are; regular visits with my family, spending time with my dog (Zack), hiking in the local mountains, skiing, and any type of water sport.

I found it a pleasurable experience working with John Mitchell. When it came to getting ready for the photo shoot, John was more than happy to help me pick out the right clothes for my body type. In addition, he was patient, genuine, professional, and someone that I look forward to working with again. I'm grateful that he has given me the opportunity to work with a true professional in a competitive field of modeling. In the future, I will recommend him to other aspiring models.
