Have you ever looked into the mirror and wondered to yourself how you could shed those few extra pounds? With the holidays passing and spring just around the corner, one may feel a little anxious to get in the swimsuit and hit the beach. I know I am! You may train in the gym for hours and still not see the results that you desire. Or better yet, turn on the T.V and listen to the same "fitness gurus" promote their body sculpting dream machines. Sure it looks easy and effective, but will you really use it? I know plenty of people who suffer from these very symptoms. With basically a third of the nation labeled as "overweight" the trend towards fitness and a healthier lifestyle is booming, and it all starts at the dinner table. I can't stress the mere importance of what your diet consists of. Most people will not have the discipline or dedication to this, but once determined, I guarantee a happier and more energetic way of life, not too mention a leaner physique.

Some of you may relate, but growing up, I was always the skinny kid in school. I could eat anything, anywhere, and at anytime. Because I played three sports and stayed active, my weight was never much of concern. There were times when I wandered how I could gain weight in order to look a bit more appealing then just mere skin and bones. I would eat anything in site in an attempt to add on the pounds. I didn't realize that I was doing more harm than good. After extensive reading and asking numerous amounts of questions, I made a choice in my life to that would follow me to the present day and beyond. I discovered how the right mixes of foods and training could transform my body into one that I always desired. It was a difficult task at first, but I was relentless in my goals. Now, I'm sure many of you have declared the same things, possibly even a recent New Year's resolution, but this decision can not be short-term and once the transition is made you will understand.

It was EXTREMELY difficult to cut out the foods that I desired at first, because I was so used to having them. I believe the old saying goes: You really don't know what you have until it is gone. Well, it was true at the time. Moderation to change is the key and my technique that replaced quitting "cold turkey." Over a course of six months, my diet took form as I began making a conscious effort to eat foods that had nutritional value. I gradually cut out fats and increased my protein intake. Additionally, I focused on consuming complex carbohydrates and took my vitamins regularly. I began to enjoy eating these foods and it felt even better to see the results and dramatic difference that they can make both physically and mentally. I not only saw a disparity in my appearance, but also in my attitude. I felt less stressed and had more energy in my daily routines. Coincidence? I think not. I've shared my thoughts with both friends and families and encouraged them if they so desired. With positive feedback from all parties it is easy to see that we are proof that "you are what you eat." So sit down and begin eating your way to a more fruitful and enjoyable life.
